During the past 20 to 25 years, the development of electroplating in Japan has been linked with the automotive and electronics industries. Basic research in academic institutions has led to the establishment of new plating systems in Japanese industry. New plating processes and technologies, such as alloy plating, dispersion coatings, electroless Cu, Ni, and Au plating, superhard Cr deposits, aluminum plating and others will be discussed.
